Focused Character Development

Difference Makers

We have a vision that all of our students will become confident, competent, and caring individuals who demonstrate solid character and are able to positively impact their school, families and communities.  All that we do as a school must lead to preparing, equipping and empowering all students to, through strong character, make a difference in this world.  Effort and success in this area is truly worth joyful celebration in our school.

Strong

Character

  • Character Development: Character development nurtures those skills and values that go beyond the academic curriculum. Specific aspects of character (at times called virtues, habits of mind, or dispositions) will be identified and integrated into the school program and culture.  They will be taught directly and infused into instruction.  They will be foundational as we help students develop strong character through the laboratory of life in the hallways and on the playground.  It is also critical that high expectations of character are modelled by and expected of all in the school.  We as adults must be role-models of integrity and character.

  • Difference Making: As students develop an attitude of care, grow in their knowledge and skills taught in the curriculum, develop a desire to help and serve with a set of character-based skills, and develop habits of leadership, they then are poised and ready to become difference-makers. It is critical that we as a school not only prepare students to make a difference, but create opportunities for them to do so.  We help them find joy in the doing.  We encourage and support them to discover their voice and implement plans of action as they are inspired to make a positive impact in their school, families and communities.
